Girls and staff at St Mary’s Calne are celebrating following the girls’ record-breaking GCSE results, with an outstanding 62% of all entries grade A*, the best results achieved by girls at the school to date. The girls also achieved a superb 86% A*-A and 98% A*-B grades.
Congratulations to the girls at St Mary’s Calne on a superb set of examination results, with 25% of entries graded A*, 70% A*-A and 93% A*-B.
Following their success at the County Final and Regional Final, St Mary’s Calne's Young Enterprise company ‘Luna & Sol’ represented the school at the UK Company of the Year Awards 2017, held at the British Film Institute in London. This year the girls have brought to market their contemporary range of loose-leaf teas for the traditional market and fresh range of bubble teas for a younger audience and they have enjoyed unprecedented success.
On Tuesday 27th June, Mrs Foreman, in liaison with Sophie P. and the student Wellbeing Committee, hosted a Wellbeing evening for all the Fourth Form and LV pupils.
On a sunny Saturday evening, following Founders’ Day, the girls, families and friends of our UVI Leavers gathered for the annual Leavers' ball. The Lily Ball is a highlight of the Summer Term and the final event for our Leavers and is kindly sponsored by The Calne Girls Association, NVB Architects and Somer 2000.
We were fortunate to have another beautiful, sunny day on 1st July to celebrate our 144th Founders’ Day! The day commenced in St Mary’s Church in Calne for the Commemoration Service, where the School Chaplain, the Reverend Jonathan Beach, welcomed everyone, in particular the Guest Speaker, the Reverend Alison Morley.
Towards the end of term, Mrs Alberelli held a 'pizza workshop' with her LVI Italian students - a chance to make their own pizzas, while also brushing up on their Italian food vocabulary!
Every year there is a festival in Wiltshire, near Salisbury, which celebrates the subject of History. It runs for a week at the end of June and Historians such as Dan Snow, James Holland and Susannah Libscomb are just a few of the 150+ speakers that attend.
On 26th June Circe, Odysseus, a few gods and several animals set off to Redland High School in Bristol for the annual Latin Play Competition!
On Sunday 25th June, Susannah (UIV) competed in the Pentathlon for the Wiltshire Junior Girls' Team in Yeovil in the South West Schools Combined Event Championships, 2017.
The UV had a great Silver DofE expedition in the Mendip Hills, being very much cooler than the previous couple of days, it was superb walking weather with just a little bit of drizzle!
Last week Mrs Hodge’s UIV and LV Spanish group spent a very interesting hour in the kitchens preparing Churros con Chocolate, a very popular and highly calorific type of Spanish doughnut served with thick, melted chocolate, often eaten for breakfast or after a long night out partying!
