Gibbins House is led by Mrs Victoria Firth (currently on Maternity Leave). Miss Kelly Malan is Acting Housemistress and Ms Debi James Acting Deputy Housemistress and Day Housemistress. Ms Maria Schofield is part-time Day Housemistress. Mrs Firth lives with her husband and two dogs (Indie and Willow) and also teaches Biology (she has a degree in Conservation Biology from the University of Exeter and a PGCE from Cardiff Metropolitan University). When not in House or teaching, Mrs Firth enjoys traveling, swimming and painting.
During the week members of the teaching staff come over to assist the Housemistress. This gives the academic staff an opportunity to get to know the pupils better and it can also be a great help if a girl would like an informal chat about their subject. House Tutors for Gibbins are: Ms Rachel Perry, Mr Chris Totney, Mrs Christina Mitchell, Mrs Sue Foreman, Ms Melanie Davies, Mrs Amanda Kingsland, Mrs Sharon Durant and Dr Stephen Drape.
Gibbins is home to St Mary’s LV Form. This is their first year of GCSEs. The girls are given their own study rooms for the first time in their school career. House is open throughout the day and evening so girls may come and study at any time when they don't have lessons. This encourages the girls to study more independently. Gibbins is situated away from the main school along with the other senior Houses.
Gibbins was opened in 1979 by Miss Gibbins who was Headmistress of St Mary’s from 1946 to 1972. In 2014 the kitchen and laundry facilities were upgraded and a new House Office was created as part of the redesign.
