Columbia University LibraryOn the evening of Friday 4th December, St Mary’s hosted a virtual Overseas Universities Information Evening for current parents and students, as well as reaching out to some of our local partner state schools. The aim of the evening was myth-busting preconceptions about the myriad of international opportunities available and demystifying the process of applying for higher education outside the UK.

After an introductory overview by Ms Holloway (St Mary's Director of Sixth Form, Higher Education & Professional Guidance), our expert external speakers did just that. Murphy Miller from A List Education gave a comprehensive and insightful talk on every aspect of US applications, from college choices through to finance and SAT/ACT testing. We were delighted that Old Girl, Emilia Flack (2014), currently studying a two-year postgraduate programme in History at Oxford University, could join us online from the US to share her recent experience of graduating summa cum laude from Ivy League Columbia. David Hawkins of The University Guys introduced the audience to Canadian study options and the differences between a range of European countries and navigating their higher education systems. A recording of the whole evening is available to students who were unable to attend the live event on request from Ms Holloway.
