ESU MACE Feb 28thOn Thursday 28th February, Georgia and Rose (Year 12) made St Mary’s history by not only participating in the South West regional round of the English Speaking Union’s Mace debate, but also winning and becoming Regional Champions!

Sixth Form girls participate in Model United Nations Conference

Model United nationsOver three days (1st - 3rd March), six girls from the Sixth Form had the chance to represent the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) at the 2019 MUN Bath Conference at Kingswood School, Bath.

Charity Week raises over £3,000 for 'Justice and Care'

Charity Week Live Band and Talent NightFollowing on from last week’s Charity Week update, we are delighted to announce that we have raised over £3,000 for our chosen charity this year, ‘Justice and Care’. Girls and staff alike came together in what the girls described as 'an epic week'. From bake sales and smoothie sales, to our live band evening, there was an activity for everyone to participate in.

RS students visit Bristol Synagogue

RS Visit to BristolOn 27th February, a group of Year 10 (those studying full RS), visited an orthodox synagogue in Bristol. There, we were met by a member of the synagogue who listened patiently to our questions and provided us with some fascinating answers. 




Girls receive Gold DofE certificates at St James's Palace

Gold DofEOn Wednesday 27th February, four of last year's Year 13 Leavers – Hannah, Charlotte, Jemima and Coco – were presented with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award certificates in the Picture Gallery at St James's Palace.

Fascinating insight into The Royal Collection

Isobel MuirOn Tuesday 26th February, we were visited by Isobel Muir, Assistant to the Surveyor of The Queen’s Pictures at The Royal Collection Trust. The Trust, which is a charitable organisation, looks after one of the largest and most important art collections in the world and manages the public opening of the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen.

Charity Week for 'Justice and Care'

Charity WeekThis week (25th February to 3rd March) is the school's Charity Week, led by the LVI (Year 12) Charity Week team.  The girls are raising funds for the UK charity, 'Justice and Care' which combats modern slavery and human trafficking.  It's been a packed week of fundraising activities including: a second hand sale, a cinema evening, a live band, a bake sale and a 12-hour sponsored run, with the week culminating in a superb 'Evening of Talent'.

Classics Symposium on Vergil's 'Aeneid'

Virgil AeneidOn Monday 25th February the Classics Department welcomed teachers and students from Dauntsey’s School and Prior Park College to attend a Classics Symposium which focused on Vergil’s Aeneid and included a lecture given by Ashley Carter and workshops which took a more focused look at elements of the courses studied at A Level.

Top children's author visits Calne

Author VisitAward winning children’s author Fleur Hitchcock visited St Mary’s during Donaldson Week. Her book, Murder in Midwinter, won her the Leeds Children's Book Award in 2017, as well as the Salford Children's book Award in 2018, and she has had three of her books chosen for the Book Trust Bookbuzz programme.

Dance Showcase 2019 - 'Home'

Forth Form Dance Show On Thursday 14th February, the Delscey Burns Theatre played host to our fantastic dance showcase. This year's show, 'Home', celebrated everything that Planet Earth has to offer, including dance trends from around the globe, tribal dances, habitats, the elements, and much more.

Inspiring WomenOn Wednesday 13th February, we held our annual LVI Form (Year 12) Careers Conference, Inspiring Women, and were delighted to welcome seven highly successful career women to Calne. Collectively, their own personal career journeys covered an amazingly broad range of professions including: Engineering, Entrepreneurism, Law, Medicine, Education, Fashion & Design, Retail, the UK Space Agency, the Civil Service, Journalism, PR and Communication, and Investment Management.
