Poore Company SupperOn the evening of 17th October, the girls and staff in Poore enjoyed their Company Supper, with the excellent theme of favourite movie characters! There were some fabulous and creative costumes, from Dorothy and Toto, Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous, Maleficent, Mario, Tigger, Joey from War Horse (full pantomime horse hired!) and so many more.

Girls learn through Gambian Adventure

TTV GunjurOver the summer, Amelia and Effie (Year 13), volunteered for a charity youth development programme run by Wiltshire-based ‘Thriving Through Venture’ (TTV), which involved them working within their communities here in the UK and then travelling to the community of Gunjur in The Gambia for two weeks in August. The girls were part of a group, with 11 pupils from other state and independent schools in the Wiltshire area, and there were three aspects to the programme: Storytelling, Photography and the Mango Business Project. Amelia and Effie were tasked with the Photography element.

Professor BillinghamOn Tuesday 9th October, St Mary’s enjoyed a brilliant lecture by Professor Lucinda Billingham from the University of Birmingham. Lucinda is Professor of Biostatistics at the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences, and she spoke about her involvement in cancer trials and the various phases that each one entails.

LectureOn Tuesday 2nd October, St Mary’s were pleased to welcome renowned political satirist and impressionist, Rory Bremner, and Dr Karin von Hippel, Director-General of The Royal United Services Institute. Mr Bremner took on a more serious role for the evening’s event, interviewing Dr von Hippel about her experience of working inside political institutions and think tanks.

Girls go for Goal in Tournament with OSCAR team from India

OSCAR footie matchOn 1st October, St Mary’s Calne was delighted to be the first of six schools welcoming the girls from the OSCAR Foundation's #kicklikeagirl UK Tour.  They enjoyed lunch and a tour of the school, before heading out to Beversbrook Sports Facility for a football tournament between the OSCAR Foundation team and two teams from St Mary’s Calne and Sheldon School, Chippenham.
