One of the highlights of the Arts calendar at St Mary's is the Golden Lily Awards, St Mary’s very own Oscars!

Outstanding achievements by students in the fields of Art, Music and Drama are recognised and rewarded in a memorable evening.  This year's event was run by the Drama Department, and it featured a drama excerpt and a musical piece, as well as a genuinely inspiring speech by the guest of honour , the distinguished RSC actor, Clarence Smith.  Mr Smith talked about his struggles and successes in his chosen career, and brought home to the guests how important self belief and determination can be, in a riveting and amusing ten-minute oratory.

We were also royally entertained by a very funny extract from One Man Two Guv’nors from drama award winners Fenella and Nell, and the evening finished with a lovely rendition of The Ex’s and the Ohs from Amy and Frances. The presentation of the awards, and the heartfelt applause that rang out for all the winners, made a fitting end to an excellent event, superbly organised by Mrs Jo Black and catered for by Mrs Linda Thomas.
