Teddy successfully launched into near space!

Teddy LaunchOn the morning of 14th March, St Mary’s and St Margaret’s launched a teddy, Mary Margaret, into near space. With the weather cleared as safe and the go ahead from the civil aviation authority, Mary Margaret was attached to a black box data recorder monitoring temperature, humidity, air pressure, GPS location, acceleration and magnetometry.

Superb networking evening with alumnae in London

Careers NetworkingOn the evening of Monday 12th March, seven of our Sixth Form girls headed to 11 Pimlico Road in London as part of a new initiative which seeks to connect current Calne girls with alumnae working in a particular field.   At the request of the girls, our first event focused on Fashion and Interior Design and we were joined by five old girls each with their own story to tell.

Girls appreciate the wonders of Rome on Classics Trip

Rome TripIn the early hours of Thursday 8th March, an excited group of 33 students and five staff set off for our trip to Rome. Our first stop was the Baths of Caracalla, a grand suite of baths that have been very well preserved with some marvellous mosaics.  It was lovely to roam about and soak up the atmosphere of these ruins. 

Girls race their Model Rocket Cars

rocket carThe LIV girls (Year 7) braved the cold weather on 8th March and joined three personnel from the Armed Forces and the Bloodhound SSC Ambassador outside to race their model rocket cars.

World Book Day Celebrations at St Mary's Calne

World Book DayOn World Book Day (1st March) some members of staff dressed up as a book character for the day. A competition was run to see if the pupils could guess who they were - this was won by Mimi in LVI (Year 12) – congratulations Mimi!

History of Art trip to Paris 2018

history of art ParisAlthough at one point during the day of departure, it seemed as if we might not make it further than London due to poor weather conditions in Europe, our journey turned out to be smooth. However, it was a novelty to arrive in Paris to find thick snow on the ground and temperatures colder than those which we had left behind.
