On Tuesday 26th September, a group of approximately 60 Old Girls, several current parents and the alumnae relations reps from the UVI Head Girl's Team, gathered in the Ballroom of the Lansdowne Club in London, to witness an evening of networking with a difference.
"Hub Dot evenings don’t have speakers... they have storytellers - Inspired by the Italian piazza, Hub Dot believes in connecting through the power and magic of stories. No status, no podium, no slide show. Only authentic stories straight from the heart.”*
On arrival, guests were asked to choose one of five 'dots', each colour representing as follows: Red - I'M ESTABLISHED, Yellow - I HAVE AN IDEA, CAN ANYONE HELP? Green - I'M HERE TO BE INSPIRED, Blue - I'M HERE TO SOCIALISE and Purple - I WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY STORY.
Similar to TED talks, though lasting one minute only, we heard a series of “stories” given by inspirational women covering topics from coping with extraordinary adversity, to learning new skills in later life, rebuilding careers and reinventing trajectories . We were also treated to the incredible singing of old girl, Sophie Barker www.sophiebarker.com and by half time inhibitions were gone, connections were made and the second half featured an enlightening series of open mic talks. It was a night of real alchemy!
Here are a couple of testimonials thanking us for offering such an illuminating networking event to the St Mary’s community.
“An evening of inspiration and connecting around storytelling" was certainly a good description. We really enjoyed the feeling of support and freedom to share that the format engendered. Thank you so much for the invitation."
“I am sure you've been flooded with thank you's for last night. It was a brilliant idea; thank you so much for organising it. Hub Dot is a very effective concept and just what the networking world needs!"
