Following their success at the County Final, on Wednesday 15th June six members of ‘Zest’, St Mary’s School’s Young Enterprise company, went to the RNLI in Poole to represent the school at the Regional Final.

Alexis, Clara, Emily, Felicity, Katie and Kitty set up an attractive trade stand to promote their Yummies for Tummies recipe books and shone when being interviewed by the panel of judges. Furthermore, they enjoyed the opportunity to share their experiences of the Company Programme with students of other schools that had also won their respective County Finals. To take their minds off the competition, they were also treated to a journey on the training simulator used by the RNLI College; the team managed to navigate successfully through stormy waters!

The girls later gave their presentation to approximately 150 people, including other Young Enterprise competitors, influential business people and local dignitaries. The event was both an amazing learning experience and a celebration of the girls’ achievements throughout the year.

The judges were full of praise for the girls’ efforts both on the day and over the course of the year, noting that the future of business is in good hands. Furthermore, the girls were delighted to see their efforts and achievements recognised by receiving the award for the Best Financially Managed Company in the South West; a suitable reward for their efforts throughout the year!

The girls are reflecting upon a successful Company Programme in which they have developed a wide range of enterprise skills, experienced the practicalities of running a business and shared a wonderful journey with one another. We whole-heartedly congratulate all the girls involved and they should feel deeply proud of their achievements.

Also to be congratulated is Pamela Vaughan, one of our two volunteer Business Advisors, who won an award for ‘South West Business Advisor of the Year 2016’, much to the delight of all the girls who she has supported so well this year.
