On Tuesday 14th June, members of the LVI Form, who are completing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), attended a workshop delivered by Dr Emma Thompson who runs Southampton University’s Learn with US Transition Programme.

Dr Thompson delivered a masterclass on how to conduct research with academic integrity and gave invaluable advice on how the girls could maximise their potential by researching effectively and efficiently. The girls heard about the whole research process. It contained a whole range of topics from how to create a good research question to creating a conceptual framework for when they write their academic report. There were so many great ideas as to how to improve their practice that it is hard to include them all, but they also discussed how to create systematic searching strategies, how to read for an academic purpose and how to develop strong arguments when completing evidence-based pieces of work. The session was interactive and there were lots of opportunities for the girls to ask questions related to their specific areas of research. They all came away with renewed enthusiasm for their research, discussing their ideas well into the evening!
