On Tuesday 17th May, four brave MIV girls set off to try their hand at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry held at the University of Bath.

The Salters' Institute have been running their Chemistry Festivals for more than 15 years with the aim of providing students with the opportunity to carry out hands-on practical Chemistry challenges in University laboratories 'like a real Chemist'. Agnes, Annabel, Elsa and Lizzie were able to correctly identify both the victim and the murderer in the forensic-style first challenge, which included a variety of chemical analyses as well as requiring the application of deductive reasoning to their data. They then ‘saved The TARDIS’ through some clever experimental design and hypothesis testing. The lab sessions were followed by a series of fun chemical demonstrations and the short drive back to school – in time for tea!
