On Friday evening, St Mary’s Calne played host to a lively and impassioned debate on the EU Referendum, ‘In or Out?’. The aim of the discussion was to help both the students in their decision, as some would be voting for the first time, and the visiting adults, many of whom were still uncertain.

Claire Perry MP spoke of the ‘profound importance of remaining in the EU’, against Dr Julia Reid MEP who argued that this was a ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to regain our sovereignty and leave’. Ably chaired by Mr Harry Morley, the speakers answered questions on a range of topics including the impact such a decision would have on the economy, national security and democracy.

As well as questions from our UVI Form, members of the public shared their views and concerns (some rather more vociferously than others!), revealing the depth of feeling on this issue and the importance of the vote on 23rd June 2016.
