On Tuesday 13th October, 30 girls from the UIV attended a Book Talk at Bristol Grammar School given by Lindsey Davis, the well known author of detective novels on Roman themes. She was introducing her new Flavia Alba series.

It was a fascinating talk encompassing how she had studied English Literature at Oxford University and then entered the Civil Service. She had personally found this career path frustrating, in an era where she saw less able colleagues promoted simply because they were male. Eventually, she resigned to start her writing career in which she has proved most successful over the last 30 years! She talked of her motivation, her research, and how she progressed from entering competitions to being a leading character in the literary world. It was most inspiring and there was a real sense that she had overcome obstacles to spend her life doing the thing which she loved most! At the end our girls attended the book signing before going off for a well earned pizza!
