Girls run for Wiltshire at the SW Cross Country Championships

On Saturday, 8th February, four of our girls represented Wiltshire at the South West Schools Cross Country Championships, this year held at Kings Park Bournemouth.

Senior GIrls
It was an excellent day of racing for Susannah and Lara (both Year 12) who represented the Wiltshire Senior Girls' Team. The weather was perfect, bright and sunny with light winds. The course itself was across open parkland with some tight twists and turns and a few short narrow ascents and descents through woodland. As a result, it was a fast paced race. Both Susannah and Lara put in very good performances, Susannah finishing 31st overall and 2nd for Wiltshire and Lara 44th and 3rd for the Wiltshire Team. Both girls now await confirmation regarding selection for Nationals.

Minor Girls
Both Matilda and Poppy (Year 7) had a superb day representing the Wiltshire Minor Girls' Team, having qualified from the County Championships. The weather was perfect for running and the course flat and fast with some tight bends and short ascents and descents through scrubby woodland. Both girls ran extremely well in a field of 70 athletes - the best in the south west. Matilda finished 30th overall and 4th for Wiltshire, improving on her 7th position at County and Poppy finished 48th overall and 7th for Wiltshire - again improving on her 9th position at County. It was an excellent performance from both girls and great experience at this level, all of which bodes well for athletics this summer on the track.
