Primary School Athletics Festival proves to be a hit!

On Thursday 6th June our Year 10 Sports Leaders led a Primary Athletics Festival for Year 4 children at Beversbrook Sports Facility, with six local primary schools attending. 120 children took part in a range of fun and competitive athletics events and relays to conclude the afternoon.

The event was planned and led by our Sports Leaders as part of their final Level 2 assessment. Each Sports Leader had their own group comprising 14 children from a variety of schools. The Sports Leaders all thoroughly enjoyed leading the event, as all the children were very well behaved and loved participating. PE Teacher, Mrs Heathorn, who is in charge of the Sports Leader course said: 'It was amazing to see how well the Sports Leaders engaged with the children and rose to the challenge of this event. We are hoping to make this an annual event it was incredibly worthwhile.'

Rose (Sports Leader) added: 'All the children were very keen to take part and loved every minute; they were all very respectful towards me and listened very carefully. I was a leader of the purple team which had talented and enthusiastic children in it. It was very heart warming to see all the children get along so well, no matter what school they came from.'

The feedback from the invited schools was very encouraging:

'We just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed the Athletics Festival yesterday - it was extremely well organised. The Sports Leaders were fantastic and the children really enjoyed it. It was great to see all the children joining in and mixing so well with other schools. Some parents have stopped me today to say their children were talking about it all night!'
