Welcome from the new Head Girl’s Team

I’d like to say, on behalf of the new Head Girl’s Team, that we are all really excited to be taking up our new roles and are looking forward to getting started now, having had a restful Easter holiday. The last couple of months have been particularly busy; we are well underway with our A Level courses and, having gone through a rigorous application process, we were allocated our roles on the Head Girl’s Team, before completing our end of year exams.

We are just getting to grips with our individual roles, as well as the teamwork needed to effectively make the most out of our positions. We recently gave a presentation in Chapel to the school, introducing each other in a light-hearted way, and we would also like to introduce ourselves individually to the girls in each of the Houses over the coming weeks too.

Some highlights of the Spring Term, for me, would have to include the incredible season of Sport, where the level of play in all years reached a new high, qualifying for the first time as a 1st team at the South West Regional Netball Tournament, amid much more. Another exciting day in February was the RADA presentation that around 20 girls from the LVI (Year 12) took part in, where we presented to a panel at RADA in London, as a culmination of the six-month public speaking course. This experience was effective in heightening skills and reducing nerves, and was a fun day out.

This term brings the excitement of tennis and athletics, with Sports Day coming in June, as well as auditions for the much-anticipated Autumn Production, and to top it all off, the work on the new library is well underway. This week, we listened to a particularly interesting lecture from Professor David Punter on The Gothic, and experienced a particularly emotional Holocaust Memorial Service, which was led by Georgia (Head Girl) and Thea (Head of Poore Company), in light of their recent History course run by the Memorial Trust, which included a trip to Auschwitz. We also enjoyed the excellent A Level Drama Devised Performances by the GCSE and A Level Drama students, before the respite of the long May Bank Holiday Exeat.

I am really looking forward to our first meeting as the Head Girl’s Team, where we will be able to discuss any necessary actions, and what our agenda for the coming months will be. There is such a diverse range of ideas and approaches to all that we are doing, that I believe we will have a great year ahead of us.

Those of us who have already begun our new roles have thoroughly enjoyed them and I know we will all continue to learn and grow in our new positions. Finally, we wish the best of luck to all those sitting external exams, and will endeavour to fill the shoes of the outgoing Head Girl’s Team, whom we must thank for their excellent leadership over the past year.
