Improving our skills at a Leadership and Networking Conference

After a restful break over the summer we have all come back to school raring to go! Faced with UCAS, Company Shout, starting our A2’s and our Tess of the d’Urbervilles production, it’s going to be a busy term!

On October 1st we (Sophie, Rosie and Becca) were lucky enough to be invited to Westonbirt for a GSA Conference on leadership and networking. We had the opportunity to meet other Head and Deputy Head Girls from across the South West and to develop connections with other independent girls’ schools. Hosted by Danielle Waterman, Rugby World Cup Champion, and PR Consultant Marianne Sweet, we had an inspirational and informative day.

We were divided into teams depending on our skill-set and challenged to design a product or service linked to the imminent Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2015. Some ideas included an App, an energy drink and various fundraising events. Following a talk on the importance of networking, we had the opportunity to speak to adults from a range of jobs over a delicious lunch, to get their input on our ideas. We then pitched these ideas to each other and were given invaluable feedback from both Marianne and Danielle so that we might improve our presentation skills for the future.

It was a great day that we all benefited from hugely and we hope that next year’s Head Girl’s Team will be able to have this same opportunity.
