Last Wednesday we hosted our first Athletics meet of the season at Beversbrook with Malmesbury, Sheldon and Westonbirt in attendance. Both St Mary’s U14 and U13 teams were on good form, despite the chilly wind, winning both age groups and producing some promising results at this early stage. The following day, a select squad of quality U15 athletes traveled down to Bryanston for their invitational relays. These included a 4 x 300m, a three minute continuous sprint relay. The team ran extremely hard and dug very deep at times, finishing joint 3rd out of the 8 schools, tied with Godolphin, and just behind Sherborne and Canford.
In more equestrian news, over the weekend Abbie, Charka and Flora won the NSEA 90cm One Day Event in Swalcliffe.
Meanwhile, Annabel competed in the British Youth Foil Fencing Championships in Sheffield. This is a huge national event with around 1000 competitors entered over the 3 days, coming from all over Great Britain as well as visiting international teams. Annabel was in a class of 53 girls. Her last fight was very close (15-13) and she was knocked out by a girl who represents her country. This was only Annabel’s third major competition so to finish 45th in such a prestigious event was fantastic as well as a great experience.
