A ‘Smashing’ Week of Tennis

  • Post Category:Sport

On Saturday 15th May, 12 pupils from Seniors down to U14 level were selected to compete in the Independent Schools Girls Tennis League (ISGTL) at Bradfield College. They came third after drawing 3-3 against Epsom College in a play-off and the match was decided on games won. Epsom won 23 games, St Mary’s won 24. It was a good day with lots of learning. Well done to all of the girls involved!

Fixture results from last week:

Tuesday Seniors vs Dauntsey’s: The A’s and C’s lost 4-5 and the B’s and D’s won 5-4. There were some very close games all round, with some great tennis on display.

Wednesday U13 vs Farleigh: The A’s and C’s won 5-4 and 6-3. The B’s lost, but played really well. The U13’s showed some great progress in their understanding and skill development on court. There was also some mental toughness being learnt on the day.

Thursday Fifth Form vs Bradfield: The U15A and U16B Teams won and the U15B Team narrowly lost.

All the girls played brilliantly against some tough, hard hitting and fast serving competition

Saturday vs Marlborough: The Seniors lost against a tough line up. Our top senior pair, Lara and Polly, played valiantly, gaining the most game wins of all the matches.

The U14’s had a tough day against some good players too, although the scores didn’t reflect the games, with lots of deuces. The A’s managed to narrowly win their matches.

The U15’s had some great games which were all were very close, narrowly winning and losing. The last two games on the court finished with tie- breakers, which were very exciting and both were won by St Mary’s.
