Old Girls’ Reunion and AGM: Saturday 18th October 2008

By kind invitation of Dr Helen Wright and St Mary’s School

When did you last visit St Mary's? Have you seen any of the Delscey Burns Theatre, the Leisure Centre, the Chapel since its refurbishment, Red Hall with blue fitted carpets, or the excellent Arts facilities and fantastic art projects of the girls? If not, do think about coming to the Reunion this year.

Does the thought of a return to Calne make your heart sink, or do you think an OGA Reunion will just be boring? If so, please think again and come to the Reunion in October.

Dr Helen Wright and the St Mary’s Community, both pupils and staff, would like to invite all Old Girls to the Old Girls Reunion at Calne on Saturday, 18th October 2008. The day will be filled with interest, both historic and current, including a chance to see the new Sixth Form Centre (near the old Lime Kiln). Old Girls will be offered special tours of the Centre, as well as a recital to hear the two new pianos donated by the OGA for the Sixth Form Centre.

There will also be a special performance of "The History Girls", in The Delscey Burns Theatre. Inspired by Alan Bennett's "The History Boys", the play has been created by Lilian Leadbetter to celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the School. There should also be the opportunity to watch an Old Girls/ Young Girls lacrosse festival, which it is hoped will take place that day.

The 2006 Reunion at Calne was voted the best for a long time, and we are delighted that we have been invited to come again in 2008.

Why not make the 2008 Reunion an opportunity to have a mini-reunion at Calne with others from your own year group? We would be happy to help you contact your friends in advance if needed.

Full details of the day and a registration form will be published in the News Sheet, which you will receive in August, and will also be published on the website.

If you need more information in the meantime, please contact: Judy Graham (email: judygraham@macunlimited.wanadoo.co.uk)

OGA Database Yellow Pages

The OGA Database Yellow Pages are published each year in the News Sheet. Their purpose is to make it possible for Old Girls to get in touch with others who may have services or advice to offer. The sections in the Yellow Pages include:

  • details of accommodation – both B & B and self-catering
  • offers of work experience or shadowing,
  • careers guidance,
  • gap year opportunities,
  • help to visitors to foreign countries
  • plus, of course, the wealth of goods and services which Old Girls wish to share with or sell to others.

We are extremely grateful to all those who have contributed in the past and hope that Old Girls will use the information provided. There is much on offer, which is of use to those who have recently left school and to everyone else too.

Like all directories the OGA Database is only of value if it is kept up to date, with existing entries kept current and new information being added constantly. This year we are making a special effort to expand and update the Database and would very much appreciate, if you have something you can offer to other Old Girls, if you would fill in the Database Information Form and return it to Christian Donovan by post or email at the address on the form.

We also include a number of advertisements within the Yellow Pages. The cost is £10 per quarter page. Please contact Christian Donovan if you would like to advertise.
