Last weekend, Teams 1 - 3 started in pouring rain, found the going on the campsite to be soft to liquid and awoke on Sunday morning to an en suite mud pool and several small lakes. Conditions on Sunday did improve, but mud remained the chief ingredient throughout. Teams 4 – 7 were blessed with sunshine and, over firmer ground, made excellent time, but nothing had quite prepared us for the severity of the overnight frost: hair, tent zips, meths, the water tap, Mr Hulme’s minibus and Sunday’s bananas fell victim to its icy grasp. Never before have teams needed to eat their emergency rations because breakfast had frozen solid and staff voted this the coldest night ever on DofE.
We have been extremely impressed with the team work, good humour, casualty care, stoicism and determination shown by all the LV Form Teams on their Practices and look forward to taking them on their Final Expeditions next term. Teams 1 and 4 – 7 will be out on 24th and 25th April and Teams 2 and 3 on 8th and 9th May.
