Matilda The Musical Trip

This Sunday 35 girls from the Fourth Form, including singers from the Chamber Choir and Junior Choir, headed to London to see the RSC’s musical Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre. Braving wind and rain on the journey down, and having a short, impromptu coach tour of some of London’s sights (Big Ben, Horse Guards’ Parade), we got off the coach just as the sun came out. When we entered the theatre we were greeted with the spectacular scenery, with the whole stage covered in colourful wooden blocks and letters. As the lights went down we were swept away on a magical journey through suspense, comedy, danger, intrigue and bravery, and of course plenty of singing! The show was amazing – the music, dancing and acting were all fantastic, and there were some spectacular special effects, including chalk that wrote on a blackboard without a person near it, and Miss Trunchbull swinging a girl around by her pigtails! The children in the cast were particularly inspiring, especially the girl playing Matilda, who is the same age as our LIV Form girls. All the girls really enjoyed the show, and we all agreed it deserved the many awards it has won.
