U3A Art Appreciation
On Monday 26th April, the UVI Form A Level Art Students visited the Devizes U3A Art Appreciation group to give a series of presentations relating to their Personal Study.
This is the second year that the collaborative venture between the group and St Mary's has taken place. Each girl gave a five minute illustrated discussion of the engagement between their own artwork and that of an artist of their choice. The girls juxtaposed their work with that of the artists who had inspired them and explained how their ideas for their final pieces had developed over the past academic year in terms of an informed critical response to art that had been viewed in galleries and museums.
The audience, that consisted of art lovers of retirement age and beyond, was extremely responsive. Members had spent time researching in preparation for the plenary question and answer session that took place at the end. Tabitha, Bethany, India, Milly, Daisy, Sophie, Ellen and Josie elicited gasps of amazement and spontaneous applause from the group and successfully fielded a range of challenging and well-researched responses from the floor. Indeed, the reaction to the girls' work was so positive that not only have we been asked to return next year but requests to purchase the girls' final pieces have been overwhelming!
