Gold DofE Apr 10
At the end of the Easter Holiday, the LVI Form Gold Teams, and Alice on her Silver Practice, accompanied by Harriet the cow, a LAMDA script, some G&P notes, the umbrella and prodigious quantities of food, successfully completed their Black Mountains Practice. Hot cross buns, chocolate rice pudding, tuna, sweetcorn, huge packs of pasta, choc bars, several kilos of carrots and Team 3’s 115 frankfurters were marched stoically across the countryside. Breakfast, lunch and supper were major events of each day, providing warmth on very cold campsites and sufficient energy to tackle the demanding routes, but contributing to some heavy packs. The Sugar Loaf, while beautiful from afar, was voted most evil hill to climb but dry, clear weather and excellent conditions underfoot made the climbs worthwhile, with excellent views from the tops. The Teams are to be congratulated on their perseverance, competence, fitness, team work and casualty care, and should be very proud of their achievements. Next stop Yorkshire… but with lighter packs, please!
