A Level Students Raise Standards Yet Again!

Our Sixth Formers recorded another set of outstanding A Level results today (Thursday).  With 100% of students achieving grades A-C, these results are the best the school has ever seen. 75% of pupils achieved A grades and 95% A-B grades.  These excellent results reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and teachers.

An astonishing 49% of girls achieved 3 A grades, with 10% of the year group gaining 4 or more A grades.  With these results, the girls have been successful in securing places at top universities in the UK and overseas. Bucking current trends, but as is often the case at girls’ schools, almost 1/3rd of the year group took Maths at A Level, the majority of whom also took Further Maths, and over 1/3rd of girls took one or more Science.  The Maths results were particularly outstanding with 100% achieving an A grade and 88% achieving an A grade in Further Maths.  An excellent 25% of the girls in the year group studied Chemistry at A Level and gained an A grade.  The school is thrilled that 6 girls will be starting courses this September in Medicine and Veterinary Science.

We are delighted that our expertise in Maths and Science will also benefit local state school pupils over the next few years under an Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP) scheme established in order to raise aspirations and levels of achievement in Maths, Science and Modern Languages, and, in particular, to encourage able young people from all walks of life to aim for university education.  All St Mary’s girls with offers at Oxford and Cambridge Universities for this September have secured their places.

Dr Helen Wright, St Mary’s Headmistress is thrilled with the results. “The girls can be justifiably proud of their success; my warmest congratulations go out to them all.  These results are also a good reflection of the dedication and professional commitment of our excellent teaching staff.”

The Chairman of Governors, Mr Simon Knight, said that he was very pleased with the results and he congratulated the students on their successes. “The results remain among the best in the country and I congratulate the students and their teachers on this excellent set of results.”
