St Mary’s girls from LIV and MIV Form explored the legends of Robin Hood and the characters associated with him, whilst creating an original St Mary’s, Calne version of the play.

Performances in the Delscey Burns Theatre from 22nd - 24th May, were very well received.  Audiences were impressed by the Junior Drama Society’s combined dramatic, artistic and musical talents, not to mention some excellent comedic characterisations and energetic dance routines!

Robin Hood is the story of good versus evil, restoring order and justice to a land that is oppressed and full of darkness. The St Mary’s Robin Hood remained true to the ancient myths of Herne the Hunter and the power of the ancient forests of England and combined traditional characters, associated with the legend, with some new ones.  King Richard the Lionheart was fighting in the Holy Wars whilst his people and land were being oppressed by the wicked Prince John and his accomplice the Sheriff of Nottingham, as well as Sir Guy of Gisborne and his brother Sly.  Robin lost all he owned but escaped from the dungeons of Nottingham Castle to rob from the rich to give to the poor and protect the love of his life, Lady Marion.  The evil Baroness Fingram and her entourage tried to destroy the Forrest Spirits and a great battle ensued, but, in the end, Good vanquished Evil, Love conquered all and everyone enjoyed their happy ending.
