UIV Form River Bottle Fieldtrip:

River Bottle FieldtripOn Thursday 8th May, the UIV Form embarked on a Geography field trip to the River Bottle in Wiltshire. The group visited three different sites along the river – the first being the source of the river at Alton Barnes, where they could see the beginning of the river bubbling up due to the change in rock type.  The next site was at Woodborough, here the girls collected further measurements of the river’s channel and, unfortunately for some, the water was slightly deeper than had been originally thought! The beautifully hot weather ensured a brilliant afternoon and so at the final site in North Newnton they were eager to jump in and help with the many calculations.  The favourite was measuring the river’s velocity, as it involved dropping dog biscuits into the river channel and calculating the length of time they took to flow from one point to another. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
