Mr Robert Bishop, formerly co-leader of the BBC Symphony Orchestra led over 150 young players in a workshop on virtuosic string music, focussing on Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro. After five hours of rehearsal, with three short breaks for much-needed sustenance, the orchestra performed two pieces, including the Elgar, in front of an enthused and delighted audience of parents.
The day was exhausting but thoroughly inspiring, and the girls agreed it was a unique opportunity to play with a large ensemble of talented string players, and to work at repertoire normally only possible on a national level.
