Building on its success as one of the top academic schools in the UK, St Mary’s is introducing a GCSE Easter Revision Course. This course will be co-educational and can be attended on a residential or non-residential basis. Residential students will arrive on Sunday evening before the course and leave on the Friday evening.
“Revising in a structured environment under our expert tuition and supervision is an invaluable use of time in the run up to GCSEs.”
The aim of Easter Revision is not only for students to become secure in their subject knowledge but also for them to become more confident at taking examinations. Examination technique is given much emphasis. Success in public examinations, however, is not just about technique: it is also about developing confidence and motivation. To achieve this, classes are small – an average of six students per group. Tutors are therefore able to identify and address individual needs and students quickly feel at ease asking questions and are helped to realise their full academic potential.
Students often find it difficult or lack the skills to revise effectively at home on their own. Easter Revision Courses provide an alternative way to revise in an active and encouraging environment. The intensive nature of the course means that students can get to grips with their subject in a way that is not possible in a normal school timetable where lessons are intermittent.
Each student is given detailed feedback about their performance and how they can improve on it. At the end of the course a written report is sent to parents which also gives recommendations for revision over the following few weeks.
The tutoring staff is made up of highly-qualified and experienced teachers from both St Mary’s own teaching staff and other reputable schools. Tutors on the courses who are not the School's regular teaching staff are selected according to rigorous academic criteria.
