Why Choose St Mary's?

St Mary’s in the Community

St Mary’s girls play an important part in the life of the local community, giving to others as well as gaining a better understanding of how people live together and support one another.

Girls attend the parish church for services and concerts on a regular basis and the school sponsors the Calne Food Bank, which aims to provide emergency food to needy local families. We are partners with Springfields, a local state school for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Amongst many other events, we have hosted triathlons, including for the British Universities Triathlon Association, with competitors from UK Universities, and we make available our facilities to community groups, including the SSAFA. Last year we hosted a Quiz Evening on behalf of the Breast Cancer Haven Trust, which is run by one of our parents.

The majority of eligible girls work for their Duke of Edinburgh Award, which includes community service, and the girls are very involved in charity work, raising money by designing Christmas cards, doing sponsored sports activities, selling cakes and preparing Christmas parcels. We run a cross-curricular Charity Week each year in the first half of the Spring Term. Charity is important at St Mary’s.
