Entry Procedures
Entry to St Mary’s at 11+, 12+ and 13+
Parents may register their daughter for entry to St Mary’s at any age before 11+, 12+ or 13+ entry. However, the School is very popular and places are limited: it is therefore advisable to register a girl when she becomes 8 or 9 years old or even earlier.
Following an initial enquiry there is an opportunity for parents to meet the Headmistress and be given a guided tour of the School and its facilities. At this stage, parents will be invited to register their daughter by returning a completed registration form and nonrefundable fee of £200.
Parents will receive confirmation of a conditional place for the appropriate year of entry.
All girls who have a confirmed, conditional place for entry to St Mary’s at 11+, 12+ or 13+ will receive regular newsletters and details of events being held at School and will be invited to a Taster Day. This takes place during the summer term of:-
Year 5 at preparatory school for 11+ entry
Year 6 at preparatory school for 12+ entry
Year 7 at preparatory school for 13+ entry.
Taster Day is an informal day full of activities that will encourage girls to get to know one another and become more familiar with the school, and enable the School to begin to know them.
Entrance Day is usually held on the first Friday in October of the year preceding entry. This day is a time for St Mary’s to assess and evaluate each girl. St Mary’s will request references prior to this day from the Head of each girl’s preparatory school. We would ask that your daughter bring along some examples of recent work that she would like to share with us. St Mary’s will then inform parents on the next appropriate step for their daughter.
Girls exhibiting outstanding promise will be invited to enter Scholarship examinations. To be accepted for entry via this route, St Mary’s must be selected as a single choice school and approval for such entry must be given in writing by the girl’s present Head Teacher.
Places are offered subject to satisfactory performance at examination and acceptance of the standard terms and conditions and Parent School Contract agreement.
Entry for Sixth Form
We welcome enquiries for girls seeking placement at St Mary’s at Sixth Form entry level. Places are offered subject to satisfactory individual assessment based on interviews at St Mary’s and reports from the Head of their previous school, and sometimes written papers. Offer of a place will be conditional on satisfactory GCSE results. Girls should achieve As and Bs in the subjects they wish to take forward to A Level.
