Sporting Success

An unfortunate coincidence of events meant that the early part of last week was exhausting for our athletics teams. Last Monday, the intermediate team of 12 UIV and LV Form travelled to Exeter to compete in the regional final stage of the Track and Field Schools Cup, having qualified earlier in the term. Every athlete has to do one track and one field event and hopes were high for this talented team. Rather excitingly we were lying in first place after the track with wins from Jemima, Izzie and Yasmin. But sadly despite wins from Annie in the javelin and Kamilla In the High Jump, we slipped down to fourth at the end of the day – still quite an achievement in the South West region.

With the Area Championships following Sports Day, tired and aching bodies boarded the bus, eager to show our more local rivals in North Wiltshire just how much we had improved. Flora and Ariana each won the 800m in their respective age group whilst Jemima and Maia both won the High Jump. In Year 9 Yasmin won the 1500m, Annie the javelin, Georgia the long jump and Millie won the high jump.

Completely off the track, Felicity continued her training for her cross-channel relay swim attempt in October. As a cold-water enthusiast, yesterday Felicity completed two training sessions off the coast of Dover in two-three feet high waves and in strong south-westerly winds and without a wet suit! She then raced back to Wiltshire to compete in a 1.5km timed session at a Wiltshire County Meeting. We congratulate her on her efforts and wish her all the best for her training over the summer swim attempt in October.
