An impressive week of sport

There were many impressive sporting successes last week. We saw our first ever St Mary’s Football Team take on Marlborough College and win 2-0, with some fine skills on display. Our Hockey Teams were also in good form and after a tough defeat by Wells Cathedral, the 1st XI travelled to Cheltenham Ladies’, winning 3-0 and playing some great hockey (although admittedly it was their 2nd XI). The U14As produced a fine team performance against Malmesbury, winning 4-0 in the pouring rain, the U14B beat Lydiard Park Academy, whilst the following day our U15B beat Lavington.

Meanwhile down in Dorset, we entered two teams in the Leweston Relays amongst some really stiff competition. The U13s won bronze medals behind South Wilts and Leweston and ahead of Millfield, Sherborne and Parkstone Grammer. In the Inter Girls Caroline ran a superb last leg, recording the fastest time overall to bring the team home for Silver.   On Saturday we split our teams and took on two schools - Heathfield and Haberdashers. It was a great way for some of the B Teams to be exposed to a higher level and to play with some of our A players and everyone rose to the challenge and we came home with a clean sweep of victories. Sunday morning dawned cold and wet as the U18, U16 and U14 Netball Teams set off to Dorcan for the County Tournament. Always a challenge out of season for our U16s and U14s, but they fought hard and the U16s finished a very close third, narrowly missing out on a place for the Regionals. The Seniors, however, were on fire, beating New College and in with a real fighting chance for the regionals. Sadly a close defeat at the hands of SWGS left us in 4th, just a point behind joint 2nd.
